Day 5 - 01/07/20 - Proper coastal walking
Woke up to a bright sky this morning and also some cows noseying around my tent ⛺.
It was good to wake up in the dry and I took full advantage of it!
After a Huel and a banana for my breakfast I packed up my beach house and headed Bushmills direction taking advantage of a short cut along the bottom of a rocky outcrop as the tide was going out.
This brought me onto the coastal path proper which basically took me to Portballintrae. Path was lovely to walk on and I met so many people on this route that I couldn't name them all (I forgot to ask half their names anyhows). But thanks to all who stopped to chat and give there support👍🏻.
The weather got better as the day wore on and after a sneaky wee lunch in Bushmills with my parents I set out again for Portrush. The road from Portballintrae to Portrush was mainly footpath until it dropped down onto east strand so I got to walk the whole strand to the centre of town.
After a quick rest of the legs (which are getting sore now) I took the obligatory 'Barrys' selfie and set out via the west strand Portstewart bound.
Haven't made it that far yet mind and am currently camped up for the night between the two.
The nightly routine seems to have settled into:
Setup tent
Blow up roll mat
Eat a light dinner
Make a hot brew
Check feet
Stretch
Write blog
Sleep
With the latter generally starting about 2200.
Big shout out to Bernard for the chocolate raisins he gave me on Saturday, just finished them today. And also to Sophie for the cookies and brownies. Although I finished them on Monday I could definitely do with some more 😃.
Stats for today are:
Km walked : 25.6km
Total elevation gained 549m
