Day 11 - 07/07/20 - Double Day
What do you do when the weather is perfect for hiking? Walk 54.8km of course!! 🙂
First though I'll take you back to last night. I was chatting with the farm hand and he was telling me the path I wanted to take over the hill wasn't viable as the ground would be too rough and near on impassable.
So this morning after clearing the way for digging operations I took a jaunt up to see If he was correct or if I could find a path though.
After about 20 min searching for a decent path to follow up the mountain I gave up and went back to my digger 😅 to look at my options.
At this point the farmer turned up and we got chatting about various routes I should take.
After some consideration we decided I should go around this set of hills and head for Moneyneaney from which a small track leads up the next set of hills.
So the detour including me messing about in the morning probably added about 10km onto my journey but at least it was easy walking!!!
At Moneyneaney I called into the (only) shop for supplies only to find out credit cards aren't accepted only debit cards!
And with no cash on me I came out with a free cup of tea 😅.
Mattered not as I had plenty of provisions from the previous day, although they did let me fill my water up before I left which was decent of them.
I then took the track up and covered two peaks before coming off the hill and back onto tarmac road.
After this it was a mix of track and metalled road the whole way to Gortin.
I really hadn't planned to go this far today but the weather was warm and overcast making it fantastic for hiking so that's what I did.
I ended off the day with a pizza from the local kebab shop which I'm partially regretting 🤢 and I was looking forward to a Guinness but the bars were closed ðŸ˜.
Am currently camped up beside the river in the local park. Hope there are no early morning dog walkers!! 😅
So today's stats were 54.8km walked and a total accent of 1148m.
A good day in all with no major injuries to report.
