Day 27 - 23/07/20 - Mr Towpath
Had a late enough start this morning and was on the road for around midday start of where I left off near a small town called Clare near Tandragee.
Walking south east down back roads got me back into the swing of things and as always it began to rain 🙄. Didn't last too long though and I hit scarva and the start of the canal tow path far sooner than I had anticipated.
The tow path is a lovely walk. I takes you a good 20km and straight onto the heart of Newry. It was pretty busy today with a mix of cyclists, runners and dog walkers. Flat as a pancake, I even was in the negative numbers for above sea level at one point!! 🤔
Good time was made into and though Newry and by 1830 I was out the other side and in a forestry block taking me to Warrenpoint. However coming out of the block I decided to take a couple of back roads and head for my final destination - Rostrevor.
On route this direction I met a couple out walking their dog who asked me about my walk and the girl mentioned she had read Alan Warner's book, who was the first person to walk the Ulster way back in 1979.
Getting into Rostrevor I touched base with Eoin who is a Technician at the Newry Town hall Theatre and who lives in Rostrevor. He has kindly donated his front garden to the cause and that is where I am writing this blog. We drank a few socially distanced beers out in the garden somehow it is one AM?! 😅
Today's stats: 46km walked and 639m of ascent.
Thought for the day.
'In the land of the blind, the one eyed horse is king' 🤔
