Day 2 - 28/06/20 Wet in the Antrim hills
Firstly apologies for posting these together and at the end of day 3. Internet signal was poor in woodburn forest and non existent in Glenarm Forest park.
As I write (2200) rain is pelting of my tent!
I woke up this morning around 0700 after a broken night's sleep hoping for a better day, and boy it did not deliver.
Rain hammered my tent until around 0900 this morning so I stayed in hoping it would pass for the day.
I eventually got up at 0930 to light drizzle. Had a bite to eat, brushed my teeth and put the tent away (soaking).
I had to push on and not waste any more time dwelling my cocoon.
Heading for Straid and then Ballynure where I met up with my parents for an early lunch in there car where I tried to dry off and warm up.
A slight gap in the rain saw me off again fully resupplied. The let up lasted around 10 minutes or so before drowning me again, and this time it didn't let up for a few hours.
Unperturbed I ploughed on out towards kilwaughter before cutting left and onto the Antrim hills.
The plan was to stop mid way though the hills for an overnight before heading onto Glenarm.
However the gailforce winds and side wards rain put a stop to that and I just ploughed on to glenarm forest to ensure a bit of shelter for the night.
I managed to get the tent up in light rain before it started any harder and took my dinner which consisted of a cuppa soup and some cookies inside the tent.
I'm hoping sleep will come easy tonight and tomorrow will bring a brighter day in terms of weather.
Today's total distance was 39.7km with a total ascent of 2413m. Lots of hills today and being in glenarm means I've came down them also!!
